The Sailfish is the fastest fish in
the ocean, hitting speeds up to 68 mph! The goal of this team is to
pursue that speed by first learning the most efficient technique for each stroke, then build strength for that technique and then build endurance
for that strength in a positive, caring, injury free environment. An
ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and taking the time to
learn proper stroke technique before swimming a whole bunch of laps is
the shortest cut to fast, healthy swimming for a lifetime.Just scroll down below to see what I mean.

South Texas BB Championship Meet 5th Place!
5th
out of 22 teams with 591 points. Only 20 points out of 4th place. Last year we were 6th out of 11. We moved up 6 places
in one year!
18 Sailfish
attended, 12 individual records and 2 relay records.
Friday
night Marcus lead the Sailfish into the meet with a 10 second time drop,
setting a team record, and making an A cut in the 500 free!
He added 4
more A cuts to his collection on Saturday and Sunday. Adam made 2 A cuts and jumped
from a BB to an AA cut. Grant also picked up an A cut.
Two of the
3 relays set team records. The 10 & Under boys 200 yard medley relay swam 8
seconds faster than their seed time and won first place. They were the only
relay team at the 3 day meet to take first and break the streak of NITRO relay victories.
75% time
improvements at prelims on Saturday followed by another 75% time improvements
at finals Saturday night!!!
70% time
improvements on Sunday morning followed by another 64% time improvements at
finals on Sunday night!!!
I had to
sheepishly approach the head timer last night at finals with the fact that the
Sailfish where scheduled for a second shift of timers but we did not have any
swimmers swimming in the second shift. They said not to worry about it because Sailfish
parents had been coming up and doing extra, helping out all meet. Thank you
parents, for your support. You are a cut above! Swimmers, do not take them for
granted. |

South Texas B Championship Meet 3rd Place!
In only the second year to compete at the B championships the Sailfish placed 3rd out of 20 teams! In our first B championship in 2010 the Sailfish placed 5th out of 11 teams.
64% of all the swims at this meet were time improvements. The Sailfish brought only 20 swimmers but averaged a whopping 78% in time improvements. That is 14% higher than the meet average.
Every swimmer and every swim matters. Scoring 957.5 points the Sailfish were 200 points ahead of 4th place but only 72.5 points out of second.
1 Relay Team and 12 Individual Records were set.
Congratulations to the fastest improving team of FISH in the league! |
Ft. Hood Swim Meet
7 first
time swims. 4 of 7 swims made B or better cuts. It pays to try new events!
No DQs!
59% time improvements. We continue to be the fastest improving team of FISH in the ocean.

April 2nd Swim meet results are posted. We had good weather and good times at the West Austin Aquatics Club Best Times Meet. 8 Swimmers set 15 team records. There were 24 BB times and 15 B times with 31 of 71 time improvements (44%), 9 first time swims, and only 1 DQ. |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In March of last year, in our first meet as an official USA
swim team we had 18 swimmers attend and placed 8th. One year later we
not only had swimmers attend the B championship meet, moving up to 5th
place, but also attended the next level up BB meet, placing 6th, and attended the next level up A championship placing
16th! We have come a long way in a very short time.
I am still catching my breath a
little from the (B, BB, Best Times, and A meets) schedule but
overall there has been a great deal of experience gained and quit a few time
drops. Well done everyone.
A Championship results. Congratulations to Jyna Leckbee,
Brianna Zawadzki, Azea Gluff, Adam Haig, Stephen Pruneda and Emily McGahan for
making it to the A championship meet. Megan Kalina, Mackenzie Glava and Grant
Kjeldsen also made A cuts but were unable to attend. Making it into the finals
were Jyna, Adam and Stephen. There were 21 teams in attendance and the Sailfish placed 16th in our first showing.

Texas Gold Best Times
Team Trophy Meet
The Sailfish keep getting faster. Each time you swim it gets harder to
drop time. Yet for many on our team this was the 3rd meet in 4 weeks and we
still averaged a 50% time improvement rate. Awesome!

72% Time Improvement
rate!
In our first BB Championship the Sailfish placed 6th out of the 11 teams invited.
The results of both the
B and BB championship prove to me that the Sailfish training program is working
really well.
In addition to the many
time improvements there were also big time drops. I want to point out that the
really big time drops came to the Sailfish that attended more than one practice
a week and have “paid attention in practice and worked both mentally and
physically on their technique” over several months. |
 |
More Really BIG time drops: Adam H. took 12.67 seconds off his 100 Breast
making his first A time, and 10.39 seconds off his 100 Fly! Aurelia I.
sliced 12.21 seconds off her 200 IM time. Stephen P. took over 5 seconds
off both his 100 and 200 Backstroke to win the events and make A times in both
events. On the 200 back that is an additional 5 seconds from the 13.72 seconds
he took off just two weeks before. Grant
K. took 8.27 seconds off his 500 Free and 6.57 seconds
off his 200 free.
Anywhere close to a
best time is a really good swim. A time improvement is a great swim.
Congratulations to everyone on a great effort in both meet regardless of the
time. Do not underestimate the value of the experience gained from these
competitions. |

November 20th - Texas Gold Best Times
Team Trophy Meet - 3rd Place!
Following the first
ever and very successful USA
swimming home meet at Sendero Springs, in October just 3 weeks ago, the Sailfish
turned heads Saturday at the Texas Gold Best Times Meet held at Southwestern University. 34 Sailfish finished
3rd behind 19 Heart of Texas Aquatics swimmers and 35 San Antonio
Sharks. This meet was scored based on
calculating the percentage of swims where each swimmer either bettered their
best time or not. For example, our 9 and under swimmers outperformed everyone
with an average time improvement rate of 75% or an average of 3 out of 4 swims
that was a time improvement.
So at this meet, the higher a team scores the better
that team is at improving their swimmers relative to the other
teams. The Sailfish showed more improvement than any of the other local teams in attendance. I heard comments
like, “I’m jealous of your time improvements” and “where are you from?” In
addition, 15 of our swimmers set 42 team records.
Team records, medals
and ribbons from past meets will be in the family folder black box.

Our first home meet- The Great Pumpkin Invitational October 30th
What a great first impression for our first time swimmers and
the visiting guests. Even though we were faced with a huge learning curve with
how USA
swimming meets are run, there were many comments on how calm the meet was. Both
session of the meet actually finished early! Yes there were a few hiccups, like some
of the wireless watches not liking the cold and delaying the start by 10
minutes. But once they were held and warmed up they functioned well the rest of
the day.
Our lead
volunteers Rita, Mindy, Vio, and Shelia took on many roles before during and
after the meet, while there were great behind the scene performances from Michele
(learning clerk of course), Michael (set up) and P.I. (learning USA computers).
AND we are not done yet, Thanks to all the parents and relatives including
uncles and older sisters who did their part with timing. We pulled our weight
and then some. Yet even with all the parent support we still would not have
been able to run the meet without Dorothy’s computer expertise and the team of
trained referees that she was able to assemble coming from AMSC.
Congratulations
everyone.The meet
results are posted on the South Texas Swimming Website or you can look up your
individual times on the Sailfish Team Stats Online link.

Round Rock Unclassified September 24-26th
This was our season opener and what a start! We had
148 total swims. 58 were first time swims with only 3 DQs. Out of the other 90
swims 80 were time improvements! That means 88.8% of the swims were best times
beating our 78.6% team improvement record set at Junior Olympics back in March.
So I think it is safe to say that all the technique work we have been doing is
paying off big time. Congratulations! We are living up to our fastest fish
in the ocean namesake, the Sailfish, by getting faster, faster than anyone else
around. |

SPEED stroke training- begins June 6th.
Tuesday/Thursday and Monday/Wednesday, 13 and older- 6:30-7:30AM
This practice is for
swimmers wanting the extra attention and distance training needed by USS and HS
swimmers and is designed to work with instead of against the sprint training of summer league.
Tuesdays and Thursdays will be an hour of swimming a ½ hour of dry land and
then an hour of swimming again. This alternating of harder and easier days
allows the swimmers to recover and grow stronger without getting worn out. The Monday -Thursday option is available for some select swimmers and must be approved by coach Chris.
Online signup at bcmub.org
SPEED swim team training June. If you are a Marlin and/or High School
swimmer sign up with coach Christopher in person.

The April 11th Anderson Mill Spring Fever Meet was fast and friendly. Congratulations to 11 swimmers that set team records: Brianna, Enyta, Aurelia, Anisa, Madison, Josh, Adam, Colin, Jazzlynn, Helen, and Vanessa. Parents thank you so much for your generous support.
|
Parents, Thank you for your support and work at the Junior Olympic meet and for the opportunity to be a part of your swimmer's adventure.
Below are the ST Junior Olympics meet results. Every event entered was with the fastest swim to date for our swimmer. The time improvements were many and huge. Bryn cut 37.15 seconds off her 50 back. That is 18.5 seconds per 25 yards! Josh took 53.12 seconds off his 500 free. That is more than 2.5 seconds per length times 20 lengths faster!
Out of 89 swims: 70 were time improvements! (78.6% team improvement) 72 Team Records were established.
Overall, 49 swims (55%) placed in the top 8, scoring points for the team and bringing home either a ribbon or a medal! There were 6 in Eighth, 4 in Seventh, 5 in Sixth, 4 in Fifth, and 5 in Fourth. Now check this out. 25 swims including 3 relays placed in the top 3! (35.7% brought home a medal) More swimmers placed in the top 3 than in 4th-8th places combined! 7 in Third place, 10 in Second place and 8 in First place! WOW! Even though we only had 18 swimmers, we actually beat a well established team to move up to 8th place overall. Not bad at all for our very first meet as a USA swim team.
The results are staggering. I am very proud and happy with everyone's performance.
