Practice Dates, Dual Meets and Championship

All practices are currently scheduled for the Sendero Springs Pool. Swimmers will be assigned a workout time by the coaches based on ability, age-group and workout efficiency. The coaches are challenged with providing excellent coaching for every individual but only have 4 hours to work with 240+ swimmers. That is 60+ swimmers per hour with 2 lanes per coach in an 8-lane pool. The coaches will attempt to be flexible to special situations as long as it does not compromise the best interests of the team as a whole.

Each practice has exceptions, meaning the coaches have moved some swimmers to a practice other than their age group.

3:45-5:00PM W3: 9-12 Girls                                                                                4:45-6:00PM W4: 6&U plus 7-8 girls                                                                             5:45-7:00PM W2: 7-12 Boys                                                                                      6:30-8:00PM W1: Senior workout

There will be a practice meet/time trials during regular practice time the first week of practice. The practice meet is for the parents to practice timing, computers, setup, ready bench, stroke judging, etc. The time trials will be for the swimmers to get preliminary times for initial entry in the first two dual meets.

Morning practices begin Tuesday, May 31st-July 8th 7:30AM - 12:00PM

Dual meets: We will continue the practice of alternating events for each swimmer for the first 4 dual meets. Meets 1 and 3 they will swim one set of events. Meets 2 and 4 they will swim the other set. This will allow each swimmer to participate in every event two times. At the 5th and last dual meet each swimmer is allowed to pick their own events.

The Championship meet:  Everyone on the team is expected to participate in this meet! This is our only competitive meet. The coaches will spend approximately 6 hours entering each swimmer in the events that will help the team attempt to win the championship.

The Optional Invitational meet is for individuals who make a qualifying time.

Christopher Kjeldsen Head Coach

Having been with the Marlins in the parental volunteer positions of timer, stroke judge, coach liason to the board and board member for the 4 years prior to becoming head coach and now having completed my 6th year as a coach, I have the unique perspective of observing the Marlin organization from both a volunteer and professional point of view. The very first thing that really stood out about this team was what I saw at the very first meet 10 years ago. The tradition of swimming with tremendous heart. Add to that the fact that Marlin parents are well known for their hard work, friendliness and organization, and you have all the ingredients a good coaching staff needs to encourage athletes to become winners. And we have a very good (loyal, dedicated and cohesive) coaching staff.

So as we move the bar of excellence higher each year, I am humbled and truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with such an outstanding organization. I pray that I can continue the cycle of returning to this community the many blessings I have received turning winners into champions each summer. :-)

Kassie Krusely

I am finishing up my senior year of college at Southwestern University. I swam for the Marlins for 11 years, Lone Star Aquatics for 5 years, and for Round Rock High school all 4 years. I then went on to swim in college my freshmen year. This summer will be my fifth year coaching for the Marlins and I couldn't be more thrilled!

The Brushy Creek Marlins have been a part of my family for 15 years and I can't wait for another great summer!

Howdy, I am a Senior Kinesiology major and Psychology minor at Texas A&M University and a proud member of the fighting Texas Aggie class of 2012 A-WHOOP!!! I was a swimmer for 11 years including 7 years with the Lone Star Swim Club, all 4 years of high school on the McNeil varsity swim team, and all 11 years with the Brushy Creek Marlins. This will be my 4th year as a coach for the Marlins and after I graduate I plan to continue my love for coaching the sport of swimming where ever God leads me. Can't wait for an awesome year!!! Gig'em.

I've been swimming with the Brushy Creek Marlins since I was six years old and aged out last year. That makes 12 years of coming to the pool--there's really no stopping me now. Summer league has always been a blast, so I'm excited about continuing with the team as a coach. I coached M&M's last year and have been a middle school rec volleyball coach for three years. I will graduate from McNeil High School this May and will attend either the University of Texas or Baylor University come fall, with a probable major in political science and/or economics.

Nate Cox

I am a graduate from Round Rock High School, class of 2011. I will be attending college in the fall and plan to major in International Studies, focusing on Latin America, though I have yet to decide which university I would like to attend. I am an experienced lifeguard and swim instructor and have loved being around the water ever since I joined the Brushy Creek Marlins 6 years ago, taking my very first strokes in a competitive swimming program. There I found not just an amazing sport, but an amazing team as well. I went on to swim with Nitro Swimming for 2 years and Lone Star Aquatics for 3 years, and have been a proud member of the RRHS dragon swim team for all 4 years of my high school career, but the Marlins have always held a special place in my heart, and I couldn’t be more excited to give back to the team that has done so much for me.
