Practice Dates, Dual Meets and Championship

All practices are currently scheduled for the Sendero Springs Pool. Swimmers will be assigned a workout time by the coaches based on ability, age-group and workout efficiency. The coaches are challenged with providing excellent coaching for every individual but have limited space and hours to work with 240+ swimmers. That is 60+ swimmers per hour with 2 lanes per coach in an 8-lane pool. The coaches will attempt to be flexible to special situations as long as it does not compromise the best interests of the team as a whole.

Each practice may have a swimmer moved by a coach to a practice other than their age group. Parents do not move your swimmer without talking to a coach first or else they may not get to practice that day.

After School practices Tuesday, May 15th-25th 3:30PM- 8:00PM

3:45-5:00PM W3: 7-10 Girls                                                                                       4:45-6:00PM W4: 6&U plus 7-8 boys                                                                            5:45-7:00PM W2: 11-12 B&G plus 9-10 boys                                                                 6:30-8:00PM W1: Senior workout

There will be coach time trials during the regular practice times on the 17th-18th, and possibly over the weekend. The coach time trials will be for the swimmers with no previous times in an event to get preliminary unofficial times for initial entry in the first two dual meets.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dual meets: We will continue the practice of alternating events for each swimmer for the first 4 dual meets. Meets 1 and 3 they will swim one set of events. Meets 2 and 4 they will swim the other set. This will allow each swimmer to participate in every event two times. At the 5th and last dual meet each swimmer is allowed to pick their own events.

The Championship meet:  Everyone on the team is expected to participate in this meet! This is our only competitive meet. The coaches will spend approximately 6 hours entering each swimmer in the events that will help the team attempt to win the championship.

The Optional Invitational meet is for individuals who make a qualifying time.

Christopher Kjeldsen Administrative Head Coach

Having been with the Marlins in the parental volunteer positions of timer, stroke judge, coach liason to the board and board member for the 4 years prior to becoming head coach and now having completed my 6th year as a coach, I have the unique perspective of having observed the Marlin organization from both a volunteer and professional point of view over the last decade. The very first thing that really stood out about this team was what I saw at the very first meet. I saw swimming with tremendous heart. Add to that the fact that Marlin parents are well known for their hard work, friendliness and organization, and you have all the ingredients a good coaching staff needs to encourage athletes to become winners. And we have a very good (loyal, dedicated and cohesive) coaching staff.

So as we move the bar of excellence higher each year, I am humbled and truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with such an outstanding organization. I pray that I can continue the cycle of returning to this community the many blessings I have received turning swimmers into winners and winners into champions each summer. :-)

Kassie Krusely- Head Coach

I have been a Brushy Creek Marlin for the past 15 years beginning swimming for the Marlins at the age of 7. This where I first found my love for swimming. At the age of 13, I began swimming for Lone Star Aquatics during the school year and continued  swimming at Round Rock High School. I was recruited to swim for the Southwestern University Pirates and graduated with a BA in Kinesiology in 2011. Since graduating, I have been living in Austin and coaching the Sailfish USA club swim team alongside Coach Chris and Coach Nate. This will be my 6th year as a coach for the Marlins and I am ecstatic for the start of the new season and to see the swimmers achieve a new personal best!

Nate Cox- Assistant Head Coach

I am a graduate from Round Rock High School, class of 2011. I am currently finishing my general courses at ACC after which I plan to transfer to attain a BS in Chemistry, though I have yet to decide which university I would like to attend. An experienced lifeguard and swim instructor,  I have loved being around the water ever since I joined the Brushy Creek Marlins 7 years ago, taking my very first strokes in a competitive swimming program. There I found not just an amazing sport, but an amazing team as well. I went on to swim with Nitro Swimming for 2 years and Lone Star Aquatics for 3 years, and Coach Chris’ fledgling S.P.E.E.D. program for 1 year. I was a proud member of the RRHS dragon swim team for all 4 years of high school. This will be my second summer coaching for the Marlins, and I couldn’t be more excited. I have had the wonderful opportunity to continue to coaching throughout the school year with the Sailfish USA Swimming team and as I return to the Marlins this summer, I hope my added experience will allow me to help both new and returning swimmers to reach new heights of personal improvement.

Katie Myers- Assistant Coach

I've been swimming with the Brushy Creek Marlins since I was six years old. That makes 12 years of coming to the pool--there's really no stopping me now. Summer league has always been a blast, so I'm excited about continuing with the team as a returning coach. I coached M&M's in previous years and have been a middle school rec volleyball coach for three years. I graduated from McNeil High School and attend Baylor University with a probable major in political science and/or economics.

Alma Bolger- Assistant Coach

I am a graduate from McNeil High School, class of 2011. I am currently a student at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas as a nursing major. I start the nursing program this upcoming fall 2012, plan to graduate December 2014, then plan on doing medical missionary work around the world serving others and spreading the word of God as my career.  I am extremely excited to coach the Marlins, having swum for the Marlins for 6 summers and coached the M&M’s program for 2 summers. The Marlins have such a special place in my heart and are like family to me. I can’t wait for a super fun, wonderful, and amazing summer!!!
